Snowshoe Adventures with Reis

Ten years ago if you asked me to go snowshoeing I would have given you the crazy eye. I had recently injured my back, narrowly avoiding surgery and was concerned about getting out of bed, not clammering my way up a mountainside. I started working out at Fitness Together about seven months ago and it has completely changed my life. I no longer dread getting up out of bed and in fact when Brian Mandell asked if I wanted to go snowshoeing I had to take him up on the offer (albeit a little hesitantly).

How shocked was I to notice not only the dramatic improvement in my strength, but my cardio! I was able to keep up with the fitness master (well mostly) and I felt great. It was beyond my wildest dreams to climb that mountain, not be in horrendous pain and be able to show up for another workout and not curse Brian’s name. I’m certain the next time he asks me to go he’s going to make me run up… and I’ll be ready to by that time. Until, next snow season… Thanks to the Fitness Together training team for giving me my outdoor activities back!

CARDIO MADNESS

FT West Seattle kicked off its 8 week Cardio Madness Contest on 4/14. Utilizing a 15 minute cardio interval, clients will receive raffle tickets for each interval they complete during the week. At the end of the 4th and 8th week, prizes will be drawn from the raffle tix. Prizes include free training sessions, massages, and gift cards.

More intervals = More Raffle Tix = More Chances to Win

Each week the cardio intervals will get progressively more difficult. At the end of the 8 weeks, clients will have given their cardio vascular system a great boost. Come in and join this Madness for the next 8 weeks. This will be the Fastest 15 minutes of Lung Busting Fun!

High Performance Running Group Starts with a Kick

After running at various spots around West Seattle, the running group has moved to one location for the next round of training - the track. With it getting lighter earlier, the starting time was moved up to 8 am. This week the air was crisp and cool and dry as we descended on the Chief Sealth H.S. Track.

The track provides a great opportunity to work on sprints and pacing in a controlled environment. This high performance group warmed up quickly after the warm-up laps and drills including the butt kickers and 50 yard sprints. As the main portion of the training session began, our quiet track time was interrupted by two soccer teams. We were able to finish our set of 200 meter sprints and wrap up our cool-down before the whistle blew for the start of the soccer game. Next week, same place just a different set of kicks.

April Client of the Month - Chuck L.

"When I first came to FT, I wasn’t sure what I was going to find. Now a year later, I’m very glad to have signed up for the training. I have exceeded my expectations from when I first came up the stairs. I have also found that I don’t look for excuses for not working out when I am traveling. All the trainers at FT are committed to help you reach your goals and exceed them; all you have to do is try!”

Congratulations to Chuck for not only the progress he has made, but for his commitment to stick with the program despite his time on the road. Not only has his health improved, but he now skips the excuses and is able to workout while traveling. Thanks for being part of our family for the last year and we look forward to continuing to help you with your next fitness goals.

March Client Competition Winners - Plank

There are many things that you can do in 5 or 6 minutes such as drive 5 miles on the freeway (non-commute time of course) or reheat leftovers on the stove. Now imagine holding one position for that amount of time. Well, that's just what a couple of our clients did for the March competition.

Congratulations to our March Plank competition winners who held their plank position for the remarkable times of:

Marci 6:04

Jenny K. 5:05

And for folks not familiar with this pose, you use the core stomach and back muscles to hold your body flat and off the ground while only resting on your forearms and toes. The average for the competition was around 1:45. For April, the client competition moves to bar pull-ups.
